It’s electrifying!

The UK’s largest Volkswagen showroom has been selected to pilot the latest in electric car technology.

The e-up! Volkswagen’s newly launched alternative to traditional fuel powered cars is now available to test drive at Sinclair Volkswagen in Swansea.  The vehicle offers drivers the chance try what is considered to be the driving experience of the future with the conventional convenience, driving and ownership experience that people crave.

The car itself is surprisingly nippy, accelerating from 0-30mph on 4.9 seconds with the ability to outrun the Golf GTI from a standing start.

Jeremy Phillips, Brand Manager at Sinclair Volkswagen in Swansea said: “This car certainly isn’t a compromise.  It stands up to its fuel driven equivalent and offers the speed, efficiency and features that our customer expect.

“Having driven the e-up! myself I know all too well how responsive it is and I can’t recommend the driving experience enough.”

Replacing the traditional engine is the 81 horsepower motor and single speed gearbox with a lithium-ion battery pack under the floor taking up just a fraction of boot space.  The system can be charged using either a conventional mains cable for overnight charging at home or a DC cable for a 30 minute charge when out on the road.

With an ever–increasing number of electric charging stations and the fact that the e-up! has a range of 93 miles makes it a genuine contender in the car market. The range of the e-up can be further enhanced using the Eco+ mode if required.  Furthermore the £5,000 Government grant brings the price down to under £20,000.

Jeremy added: “The e-up! is a real positive step forward for electric cars, being modelled on an existing model means that it doesn’t look like a futuristic space ship that immediately draws attention to the fact that it is an electric car.  It’s subtle modifications offer the best of both worlds, economical eco friendly driving with the power and convenience for city and longer distance travel.
