DIRECTOR BOOSTS MACMILLAN CHARITY PUSH

Helen Cooper, marketing director at Selco Builders Warehouse, based in Wythall, south Birmingham, completed the Watford 10km to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, which supports and improves the lives of people affected by cancer.

Since 2012, Selco colleagues, employees and suppliers have raised over £100,000 for Macmillan and this year have pledged to raise an additional £50,000.

Helen completed the run in 1hr 1min 18secs, and has already raised more than £800 for Macmillan.

Helen, who lives in Bedford and was joined in the event by fiancé Paul Gemmell, said: “It was a tough course with two very demanding hills but it was a great experience and I’m delighted to have completed it.

“I was aiming to finish in one hour 10 minutes so I was delighted with my time.

“But the most important aspect of the day was to raise money for Macmillan. The target was £500 and that has already been exceeded which is fantastic.

“The work Macmillan carry out to support those affected by cancer can be invaluable and with cancer affecting people very close to me, it drove me on to make sure I completed the run and was a major motivation when it got tough.”

Selco, the leading building supplies, equipment and tool provider, has nominated Macmillan as its chosen charity and has raised over £20,000 so far this year, which puts the total in excess of £120,000 since 2012.

Other fundraising initiatives planned for the year include charity golf days, a 100 mile coastal cycle challenge, a nominated charity match at Selco-sponsored rugby Super League side London Broncos and participation in the national Macmillan Coffee Morning.
