Housebuilder swings into action to support children’s charity

A charity golf day raised over £3,000 for a good cause in West Yorkshire.

Leading local housebuilder, Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, organised the event to raise money for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, an organisation that supports children with life limiting conditions and their families.

The event, held at the luxury Garforth Golf Club in Leeds involved golfers from businesses in and around West Yorkshire with 17 teams taking part in the tournament.

Leading law firm, DWF Solicitors, based in Leeds, beat off stiff competition to be crowned as the champions.

Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire was represented by managing director Wayne Gradwell, Sales Director Simon Whalley, Construction Manager Matthew Oldfield and Buyer Neil Price.

Speaking of the event, Wayne said: “The weather was perfect which made for a fantastic event. This is the second year we have dedicated our charity golf day to the charity. Forget Me Not do such amazing work across the region and their work is essential to the children and families that they support. We are extremely proud to be associated with them.”

Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice has just celebrated its first year delivering care, after being opened by Princess Beatrice in 2013. In that year they have supported over 100 children and families and it is anticipated this figure will double in the coming year.

Corporate Partnership Manager for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, Kate Goldring, said: “We were thrilled to hear that Persimmon have continued to support us this year and their golf day was another huge success.”

“The families we care for are ordinary people dealing with extraordinarily difficult circumstances. All of the children we help will have conditions which will, sadly, significantly shorten their lives. With £3.2m to raise each year we have our work cut out. With support from the likes of Persimmon we will achieve our goals and care for even more families who desperately need some support.”

Wayne added: “I would like to thank all the participants and contributors for their generosity and Garforth Golf club for hosting yet another wonderful event.”

Persimmon Homes has developments across Yorkshire, with brand new sites in Bradford, Leeds, Wombwell, Castleford and Ossett. For more information click here.
