A trainee parts advisor at a leading Plymouth motors business, shortlisted for the UK finals of an international competition, has narrowly missed out on a trip to Germany.
Mitch Bonner, 21, a second year apprentice parts advisor at Murray Volkswagen, beat off stiff competition to be named one of just four UK based finalists in the Volkswagen Retail Qualification World Championship.
The overall winner from each category (Sales Executive, Service Advisor, Parts Advisor and Master Technician) was announced last Thursday at a gala awards ceremony hosted by Ian Plummer, Head of Sales Operations, and surprise guest, TV motoring expert Quentin Willson.
Ian Plummer said: “All of the finalists were recognised as winners in their own right – they are the best in the network, and each and every one of them is a specialist in their categories.
“The competition has been fierce, so our congratulations go to everyone in the UK final.”
Mitch was disappointed not to go through to represent the UK in Wolfsburg, Germany next May, but delighted to have come this far.
He said: “It was an amazing experience to attend the UK finals last week.
“I was up against some really experienced parts advisors, so I didn’t really think I was in with a chance this time. However, I’m more determined than ever to work hard and try again next year.”
Mitch, from Plymouth, joined the Millbay dealership in August 2012. Earlier this year he won the title Volkswagen First Year Apprentice of the Year.
