A leading motor group has strengthened its commercial vehicle presence in Glasgow, bringing new investment and jobs to the city.
Lookers, which currently manages a Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle site in Baillieston, has expanded its presence in the city with the launch of an additional van centre in Darnley.
Volkswagen Van Centre Glasgow is the result of the total transformation of the former Toyota dealership on Kennishead Road.
The opening of the Darnley business positions Lookers with the largest number of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles sites in the UK, with a total of six van centres stretching from Glasgow to Guildford.
Head of business at Volkswagen Van Centre Glasgow in Darnley, Duncan McCann, said this investment confirms the businesses commitment to the commercial vehicle market.
He said: “Following our acquisition of Benfield Motor Group last year, we acquired three new van centres in Newcastle, Carlisle and Teesside. Our latest investment in the Glasgow site further demonstrates our commitment to the sector.
“Our new team is in place complete with 12 new jobs and we are currently in the process of recruiting apprentices.
“The spacious new state-of-the-art van centre in Darnley is very impressive and provides the latest Volkswagen facilities and services. Being located close to the M77 and M8 – and coupled with our existing site in Baillieston to the east of the city – we believe we have Glasgow’s commercial vehicle needs completely covered.”
The van centre is located on a three acre plot and features a large glazed exterior creating a stylish, light and airy interior environment for customer comfort with wide open spaces and a hospitality area complete with Wi-Fi access.
The six vehicle showroom includes nine workshop ramps and a VOSA accredited MOT testing area, for class four and seven commercial vehicles, in addition to a 50-vehicle forecourt dedicated to approved used vans.
