Work has started on the construction of a new pre-school in Lavenham, Suffolk.

A groundbreaking ceremony took place on Tuesday 28th March to mark the occasion with Katherine Eves (pre-school manager), Carroll Reeve (Chairman of Lavenham Parish Council) and local supporters  in attendance.

The pre-school is being constructed by Northamptonshire-based Scotts of Thrapston, specialists in the design, manufacture and installation of creative buildings, which are designed specifically for learning, living and leisure environments.

When finished the carbon efficient timber-framed building will have capacity for 48 pupils and will include a bright and spacious purpose-built play space, staff room, office space and a separate ‘quiet room’ to support children with special education needs.  A large outdoor play area is also being created using natural resources to enhance the children’s learning and development.

“The pre-fabricated design of the building means we can have the pre-school ready for September this year,” said Katherine Eves, pre-school manager.

“We are so excited to be providing the families of Lavenham, and surrounding areas, with a new care and educational, early year’s environment.  The new building means we can also open in the afternoon, which is especially good news as from September the amount of funded childcare available to parents will be increasing from 15 to 30 hours.

“A huge thanks to everyone in the local community who has supported us with this project as we look to extend, and build on, the excellent care we already provide.”

Richard Jarvis, general manager for the buildings and joinery division at Scotts of Thrapston, said: “This new pre-school will provide the ideal learning environment in which young children can thrive and achieve their full potential.  Furthermore, it will offer vital childcare places that will greatly benefit working families.

“As a company we take great pride in our approach, which combines superb design, excellent service and a sustainable mindset.  It means we can offer schools such as Lavenham pre-school a quick, cost effective and high quality permanent solution as demand for new, modern classroom and play spaces increase.”

Scotts of Thrapston has been manufacturing and distributing high quality timber products for 97 years and has been constructing educational buildings since 2014. The company offers a complete turnkey solution from initial ideas, designs through to planning permission, building regulations and project management throughout the build process.
