Five Google searches with a difference

For many of us Google is the go-to search engine. But before you go, take a moment to search these terms – you can thank us later!

Do a Barrel Roll

A throwback to 2011 and one of the first Easter Eggs to be released by Google. If you type ‘do a barrel roll’ into the Google search box, you’ll see your webpage do a 360-degree turn. Pretty cool right?

Search the term ‘askew’ in Google and watch as your webpage shifts and tilts to the right-hand side.

Don’t worry you’ve not broken your monitor or adjusted your screen settings. The same thing happens if you Google ‘tilt’.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the hit sitcom Friends, Google has introduced character Easter Eggs within its search results.

We won’t give too much away, but search for Ross Gellar and you’ll see a sofa icon in the knowledge panel. You’ll need your volume on for the next bit, as clicking the icon will trigger Ross shouting ‘Pivot’. Click the couch enough times and it will eventually split into two just like the classic Friends scene.

Don’t forget to search other character names including: Rachel Green, Monica Gellar, Phoebe Buffay, Chandler Bing and Joey Tribbiani.

Feel the power of the Infinity Gauntlet by search for Thanos in Google. In the results you’ll see the Infinity Gauntlet in the right-hand corner of the screen. Click the Gauntlet and watch as the search results magically disappear from your screen, Infinity War style.

Want to bring the text back? Click on the Gauntlet again for the results to return.

Wizard of Oz

For the 80th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz, Google introduced Dorothy’s ruby slippers to search results. Click on these slippers and you’ll not only hear a soundbite of Dorothy saying, “there’s no place like home”. But that’s not all you’ll also find your search page trapped in the same twister that sent Dorothy to Oz.

Spoiler alert click on the tornado, you won’t be disappointed!
