Terrific trio raise thousands for charity

Llanelli half marathon

Three friends at a leading housebuilder have raised more than £2,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society by taking on the Llanelli Half Marathon.

Ellisha Hughes, Clare Groom and Deborah Evans, who work in the accounts department at Persimmon Homes East Wales in Llantrisant, pulled on their trainers to take on the 13 mile race from Parc y Scarlets.

And the trio raised a fantastic £2,181 in the process, finishing the race in two hours and 12 minutes.

Clare, a 44-year-old purchase ledger from Tonyrefail, said: “We decided to take part in the half marathon as we all enjoy raising money for different charities and taking on different challenges.

“We decided it was time for a new one and the Alzheimer’s Society is close to our hearts.

“We created a strict training plan which started in January and consisted of three running sessions every week, eventually building up to 11 miles.

“We also went to the gym one lunchtime a week and did 30 minute sprints on the treadmill.

“We were delighted to come home in just over two hours and it was fantastic to raise so much for charity. We have now raised more than £4,000 over several challenges and we’re looking for new events in the future.”

Deborah is also a 44-year-old purchase ledger from Treorchy, while Ellisha is a 23-year-old finance graduate from Aberdare.

Martin Smith, managing director of Persimmon Homes East Wales, said: “We are very proud of our marathon ladies.

“They have shown tremendous dedication with their training regime and raised a fantastic amount for a great charity.”

Persimmon Homes East Wales is currently building good quality, affordable homes across South Wales, including in Llanelli, Carmarthen, Swansea and Cardiff.
