Oldham staff recognised with national awards

Three employees of an Oldham business have all taken gold in a rare triple success.

The three, who work for Volkswagen retailer Smith Knight Fay, part of the Inchcape group, are among just a handful of people to get a gold accolade in Inchcape’s annual Leading Lights awards.

More than 3,000 people across the company’s UK businesses are nominated for a Leading Lights award, but only around 40 reach the gold standard.

The awards are designed to recognise staff who have demonstrated outstanding customer service.

One of the winners is Polly Marshall, from Shaw, who, as receptionist, is the first person customers see when they walk into the retailer.

And it’s been the feedback from those customers which led to Polly getting her glittering award.

Customer feedback was also one of the main reasons why sales manager Simon Stephenson was honoured. The response from customers to his handling of all situations showed that he was held in particularly high esteem.

But as well as impressing customers Simon, from Chadderton, also received the gold award for his successful running of the sales side of the business.

Last, but by no means least, is sales executive Paul Brotherton, who sold more Volkswagen cars in the UK in a year than any other Inchcape employee.

Paul, from Lees, notched up an impressive 306 sales, beating 150 other salesmen and women in 23 retailers across the country and winning him the company’s Sales Executive of the Year title.

He also received one of the highest customer satisfaction responses of any employee.

Smith Knight Fay Volkswagen’s brand manager, Jason Chisnall, said: “I am really proud of the achievement of these three members of staff.

“Not only have they each done a great job for the company but they have also achieved great customer satisfaction ratings, which is paramount in this business.

“For a retailer to have one gold winner is a rarity, but to have three is outstanding.”
