Despite the ongoing economic challenges, a Watford business has announced plans to launch a brand new dealership in the town.
Full planning permission has been granted for a new £8m state-of-the-art Volkswagen showroom and workshop at Otterspool Way in Watford.
Work is now well underway at the new dealership – a joint venture with Citygate and Volkswagen UK – which will ultimately include a 17-car showroom, customer business lounge, 21 workshop bays, two MOT bays, high tech smart repair bay and a 65 used car display.
Jonathan Smith, managing director for the Citygate Group, said: “We have traded very successfully in Watford for six years, selling over 700 new and used cars last year. Our year-on-year growth means the current site is no longer suitable and we cannot deliver the customer experience that is core to our mission and values.
“Citygate and Volkswagen UK have been looking to relocate for the past few years and once we identified this prime site, we knew we had to seize the opportunity.
“I’m certain there will not be another car retailer nearby where customers will be able to see so many vehicles in such convenient and comfortable surroundings. Add to that our high levels of aftersales experience and customer care and we are certain to see our growth continue unabated.
“Moving to larger premises has also called for the need for more staff and we are currently recruiting for around 20 new positions, which we see as a real coup during such tough economic times.
“The relocation signifies a huge investment for the business and confirms our commitment to Watford drivers, the brand and the local economy.”
