Local charities Acorns Children’s Hospice Trust, Birmingham Children’s Hospital Birmingham Crisis Centre and Home-Start Dudley received a combined donation of over £2,500 at the Resolution West Midlands and Family Law Bar Association’s twelfth Charity Christmas Reception held at St Philips Chambers in Birmingham on 29th November 2012.
The joint annual event was attended by over 150 solicitors, barristers, judges, and court staff as well as guests from the wider business community. It gave the West Midlands’ family law community a chance to raise funds for the four local children’s and families charities in a relaxed environment.
Sponsored by Investec, Grant Thornton, Atkinson Lewis and Wesleyan, the reception was also a culmination of year long events hosted by Resolution, a group of over 6,000 family lawyers in England and Wales, who are committed to resolving family disputes in a non-confrontational way.
Philip Barnsley, chair of Resolution in the West Midlands and a partner at Higgs & Sons Solicitors, said: “The evening provided an ideal opportunity for Resolution to thank its members, along with other family lawyers and professionals for all their efforts over the last year, as well as focusing on the challenges in this area of law, whilst also raising money for four local charities.”
On receiving the cheque, Ellie Griffiths from Acorns, said: “We are delighted that Resolution continues to support Acorns. This is another fantastic donation to the charity and Resolution’s generous support will help us to continue providing vital care and support to local life-limited children and their families.”
Helen Bell from Birmingham Children’s Hospital concluded: “Resolution has been supporting the hospital for a number of years. We are extremely grateful for Resolution’s ongoing support to help us help the region’s children.”
Resolution adopts a non-confrontational approach to divorce in order for clients to avoid conflict and court battles, as well as actively promoting mediation and collaborative law as ways of helping people to reach solutions that suit the whole family. The association has over 500 members in the West Midlands.
