Poole Hospital receive exclusive gifts from Santa’s little helpers

A family-run business spread Christmas spirit to inspirational children by delivering them with gifts of hope.

Staff from Cookes Furniture based in Christchurch demonstrated their kindness and generosity when they presented the Child Health department at Poole Hospital with a Santa’s sack full of wonderful gifts and surprises for the young patients.

Poole Hospital provides a Child Health department as an integrated service for children and families across the region. The Children’s unit offers comprehensive care for medical, surgical and orthopaedic conditions as well as expert paediatric treatment and assessment for children referred via the Emergency Department.

Children from the age of 16 and under were treated to items including colouring books, pens and pencils, toys and gadgets.

Kenneth Mackenzie, fundraising officer for Poole Hospital said: “Spending the Christmas period in hospital is not much fun for the children on the unit. The play specialists and staff do their very best to keep all the children entertained.

“However receiving gifts donated to the hospital by Cookes Furniture was great for the children and all the decorations the hospital put up made it special for them.

“The children are no longer missing out on all the Christmas fun. There are smiles all round and a lot of festive spirits have been lifted!”

Simon Houghton, marketing director of Cookes Furniture said: “We were absolutely delighted to be able to help out the exceptional children’s unit at Poole Hospital, especially by bringing Christmas to them.

“Cookes Furniture truly values the meaning of family and the children’s unit provides such great care, attention and support for not only the children but to many families across the region.  We hope the Santa’s sack full of Christmas presents will help make a difference and put smiles on such brave children’s faces.”

Cookes Furniture has a tradition for helping local charities within Christchurch and the surrounding areas. They have been involved in many charitable activities and events.

Cookes was established in 1946 by Graham’s father, Edward, and today the management team includes the founder’s three granddaughters, Michelle, Vanessa and Jennifer.
