Black Country law firm embraces season of good will

Higgs festive

West Midlands’ law firm Higgs & Sons has embraced the season of goodwill by helping out two of the region’s leading charities.

Last week, seven Higgs’ colleagues travelled to Birmingham to help wrap presents on behalf of Birmingham City Mission’s Toylink programme, for disadvantaged children who would not otherwise receive a present.

Each year, Birmingham City Mission hands over gifts to 3,000 children in the city. The distribution of toys to families in need has been running for nearly 50 years.

Jody Webb, an Associate in the Corporate team at Higgs & Sons was one of the volunteers. She said: “It is hard to comprehend that there are children in the Birmingham area who go without any gifts over the festive period.

“We are so pleased to have contributed in some small way to this worthwhile cause, without the work of the volunteers and gifts from the public it would not be possible. We would encourage anyone looking to get involved to contact the Birmingham City Mission or organise a gift collection.”

A little closer to home, last month also saw Higgs collecting items for Wolverhampton’s Good Shepherd Ministry, a charity whose aim is to assist the homeless and others in need in the town. It provides practical assistance in the form of food, clothing, bedding and toiletries – some of the basic necessities of life.

Items donated by Higgs included: tinned and non-perishable foods, men’s underwear and socks, warm hats and gloves, sleeping bags and blankets and essential toiletries. The items will be distributed to the city’s homeless in time for Christmas.

Amy Brokenshire, an Associate in Higgs’ Employment team who helped organise the collection, said: “We take our corporate responsibilities seriously here at Higgs, and are happy to help in any way we can – from giving up some of our time to donating simple goods that many of us take for granted.”

Tim Jones, Head of the CSR programme at Higgs added: “These are two very worthwhile causes, particularly at this time of year: gifts for children at Christmas, and warm clothes and bedding for the homeless as the cold weather sets in.

“Thank you to all our colleagues for their generosity and kindness which will go towards helping someone less fortunate than themselves this festive season.”

Higgs & Sons is one of the Midlands’ leading law firms and is headquartered at the Waterfront Business Park in the heart of the Black Country. A modern, forward thinking practice which employs more than 230 people offering a wide range of legal services, Higgs is proud of its heritage and remains true to its client centred values and commitment to quality.
